The Canadian Institute of Management (CIM) is Canada’s senior management association; they are committed to leadership in promoting management professionalism, efficiency, effectiveness, and excellence in individuals and organizations.
Many organizations use the CIM program for systematically training candidates for more advanced managerial positions. Others have found that it engenders an appreciation of all management functions for technical personnel in such fields as quality control, design engineering, industrial sales, and production planning.
Benefits of Designation
The CIM program is made up of eight courses which must be successfully completed to qualify for the CIM designation. The CIM program requirements are listed in the chart below in the left hand column.
The CIM titles do not match the university titles. The right hand column of the chart shows the UofA equivalent course titles as they relate to the CIM program requirements.
Many of the CIM courses are components of the Management Development Certificate Program. You may register concurrently in the CIM courses and the Management Development Certificate Program and receive equivalencies towards both. Please note that students registering concurrently in a professional designation along with the Management Development Certificate program need to Apply for Admission. For students taking courses toward a professional designation ONLY, you do not need to Apply for Admission, you only need to register for each individual course.
